Canada's Justin #Trudeau Invokes Emergency Powers To
End Truckers' Protest
Trudeau will invoke the Emergencies Act to give the
government extra powers in a national crisis to bring an
end to the trucker-led protests.
The Emergencies Act was previously used by Trudeau's
father, former prime minister Pierre Trudeau, during the
October Crisis of 1970.
The truckers have found support among conservatives
and vaccine mandate opponents across the globe, even
as COVID-19 measures are being rolled back in many
places.
In Paris on the weekend, police fired tear gas and issued
hundreds of fines in an effort to break up convoys
coming from across France.
The Netherlands, Switzerland and Austria have also
seen copycat movements, and Belgian authorities said
Monday they had intercepted 30 vehicles as police
scrambled to stop a convoy of trucks.
Canadian police over the weekend cleared a blockade
on the Ambassador Bridge, which handles an estimated
25 percent of trade with the United States, and had
disrupted business in the world's largest economy.
Trudeau vows to freeze anti-mandate protesters' bank
accounts
With no need for a court order, banks will be able freeze
personal accounts of anyone linked with the protests.
Hundreds of demonstrators remain in Canada's capital
city.
Trudeau’s Ceausescu moment and other commentary
Recalling the last days of Romanian dictator Nicolae
Ceausescu, raging from a balcony at mocking crowds,
TK News’ Matt Taibbi explains: “Even in the face of the
gravest danger, a certain kind of ruler will never be able
to see the last salvo coming, if doing so requires any
self-examination.” And “effete pseudo-intellectual”
Justin Trudeau is becoming the ultimate example,
having denounced protesting truckers as a “small fringe
minority” — which, Taibbi notes, led to “people across
the country lining the streets to cheer truckers while
self-identifying as the ‘small fringe minority,’ ” and the
PM fleeing his own capital. It’s been the same “refusal
to admit — not even to us, but to themselves — the
numerical truth of what they’re dealing with,” from
“Brexit to the election of Donald Trump.”

Australian police urge protesters to leave capital
Inspired by truckers' rallies in Canada, social media
vision showed protesters occupying Wellington streets
outside the city's parliament building with tents, trucks
and vans.
Anti-vaccine protests remain relatively small in highly
vaccinated New Zealand and Australia, where most
people support inoculations.
Australia logged 22,750 new COVID-19 cases in the
last 24 hours, while the number of new cases in New
Zealand almost doubled to a daily record of 810.
New Zealand hopes Barry Manilow, can save Jacinda.
Protesters continued their demonstrations against New
Zealand's COVID-19 mandates on Saturday. Authorities
have used sprinklers and loudspeakers in their efforts to
disperse the crowd.
Why are all these plebes so angry?
